Romy:I agree. Those are what I have and that is what i found....
|
I experimented with both very wide and more conventional speaker placements. I found that bringing the left and right closer together increased tonal density, and overall I preferred this to the better imaging I had in the wider placement. If you have...

Thank you for the invite Romy. I used to be local but headed west after I could no longer stand the cold. I hope I can take a rain check....

Romy:I did not know you sat less than 6 feet from Maconda. Can I ask why you chose this position? Was it required by your room (it is small room, Macondo is big system) or was there some auditory effect you were searching for and found 5.8 ft away?...
|
Romy:In your picture you have central area of listening (listening massif, if you will) and then around it you have openings to other parts of the house. If you estimate square feet of listening massif, it is maybe ~400 sq feet, but if you add all th...

Very interesting.I spent a bunch of time messing around with slot loading under my druids, and then put 1 inch thick planks of wood I had lying around under them instead. Both tone and amplitude of bass improved noticeably (although please note we ar...

...the house is close to Paul Revere's ride?...
|
Paul S:My room setup is way too large. Vaulted ceilings, and this huge L where my listening area is in the top half of the L's spine (|) and the (_) is dining area and a corridor. It gets worse, there is also open space to the kitchen etc. etc. So it...

I find that my reaction to Copeland depends a great deal on the mood I am in. Unfortunately, as I mostly listen very late in the day, it is hard for me to embrace the energy (and positive violence) in his music. If you listen in the evenings, you must...

It is a dome tweeter, so I can see how proximity to the floor might have some impact in that at least you have HF hitting the floor. How ti regulates brightness is mysterious to me as well.My personal hamster speakers (for NPR vocals) simple mono Tiv...

Mani:I'm sorry you did not found the Druids livable, and even more sorry at the #500 hit. Chalk it up to experience. I bought my Druids for only a little more.Your 5W SET is absolutely the wrong amp for the speaker, although as others have mentioned,...

Never heard it, but it has a separate LF section....

God, I hate to bring this up as it seems you have given up on your quest for better monitors.Maybe I missed a thread somewhere, but reading over earlier posts you were looking for- high efficiency- tone- dynamics- sealed designZu Credenzas have same ...

I liked this book.He talks about tone, dynamics, emotion.Focuses on room placement, integration, focus on midrange, etc. There is some crazy stuff there, but it is marked as "superstition"...

Zu Audio treats their drivers (from Eminence) in various ways, not sure if they dip them in liquids, but I would not be surprised. You've heard them so can judge their Tonal results yourself....
|
You may be even more right than you know. Going up the Grado line in $$$ you get more and More and MORE HF.: P...
|
No worries Mani.Interestingly enough, my "reference" is also headphones. They take you in a very different direction than speakers, which is maybe why we both have druids....
|
I tried to attach measurements, but 80KB is too big for the site.I will describe -- impedence at 50 at 20Hz and 200Hz. Impedence at 8 at 50 Hz (big saddle between two very high spikes). after that it varies between 18 and 8 with a dip at 500 and a sw...

if anyone cares, here are old measurements from soundstage for the zu druids...
|
Behringer has a 3 channel digital crossover just like what you want.Don't remember the model, but it's on their site....
|
LOL!Flawed as they are, my Druids deserve a better fate than being reduced to a crisp by a Crown DC 300.The best they can hope for is a Harman Kardan "high current" 120W receiver ; )...
|
All:I have Druid MkIV and know exactly what you mean in LF. LF overall is quiet, but the ragged frequency response sounds weird. (Weirder than their ragged response in MF and HF). In measurements there is a massive suck out at 150 and at 30.http://ww...

How about more current integrateds with old-school designs.Harmon Kardon 3490 is a SS integrated stereo amp. I'm guessing it's class AB, but it does not say. Yamaha has one that is similar.Onkyo 5AVL is 40W class D integrated. ...

Mani at al. I have a paid of zu druids. Running them with 15W amp (d-class) and it is not enough for high level, although it does better than you expect. The soundstage sensitivity measurement was 97dB, but their test did not load the driver correctl...
